Richard Hammond crashed the Rimac Concept One electric car while filming for the second season of popular “The Grand Tour” motoring show on Amazon – but emerged with no serious injuries, sustaining only a minor knee injury.
“It was the biggest crash I’ve ever seen,” said his “Grand Tour” co-host, Jeremy Clarkson.
Hammond and Clarkson were filming a segment of the show on the Hemberg Hill in Switzerland when the Rimac Concept One car began rolling after completing the Hemberg Hill climb.
“Richard was conscious and talking, and climbed out of the car himself before the vehicle burst into flames,” said a spokesperson for “The Grand Tour.” “He was flown by Air Ambulance to hospital in St. Gallen to be checked over revealing a fracture to his knee.”
The cause of the accident is currently being investigated by Swiss authorities.
It was the second high profile crash for Hammond, who was also behind the wheel when the Vampire dragster crashed in an early season of the former “Top Gear” show in 2006.
Season 2 of “The Grand Tour” starring Hammond, Clarkson, and James May returns to Amazon this October.
