It would have to qualify as your worst nightmare – crashing the pace car at a major motorsport event – but fortunately for General Motors head of product development, Mark Reuss, the Detroit Grand Prix IndyCar race at Belle Isle is not exactly the Monaco Grand Prix or Indianapolis 500, so at least there is that consolation as you watch Reuss spin the 2019 Corvette ZR-1 into a wall.
Reuss was unhurt in the accident and actual IndyCar driver Oriol Servia is slated to take over pace car-driving duties for the next race. Naturally, General Motors was completely transparent about the incident and promptly blamed the “weather” and “track conditions” amongst the “many factors” not named Mark Reuss that contributed to the accident…
