Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc claimed pole position for tonight’s 2022 Australian Grand Prix while seven-time Formula One Lewis Hamilton put in his best qualifying effort yet this young season with a fifth-fastest time for struggling Mercedes. Red Bull’s Max Verstappen finished second with his Red Bull teammate, Sergio Perez, in third, and Lando Norris of McLaren in fourth.
Finishing out the top 10 were Hamilton’s Mercedes teammate, George Russell, in sixth, Norris’ McLaren teammate and only Australian in the race, Daniel Ricciardo in seventh, Alpine’s Esteban Ocon in eighth, Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz, Jr. in ninth and Alpine’s Fernando Alonso in 10th after he crashed out in the qualifying session.
