Defending world champion Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton nipped Red Bull’s Max Verstappen to snag the pole position for the 2020 Styrian Grand Prix in heavy wet conditions at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg, Austria.
Hamilton was quickest in all three qualifying sessions as he held off challenges from first, his Mercedes teammate, Valtteri Bottas, and then Verstappen, to grab his first pole position of the revamped 2020 Formula One racing season.
Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc continued his bad week and will start 11th tomorrow, after missing out on the top 10 and failing to advance to the final qualifying session.
