Mattel is working with Skydance Media to produce a live-action movie based on the Matchbox die-cast toy vehicles – although Mattel and Skydance Media have yet to divulge what the story line may be of the proposed feature film.

Matchbox was invented in 1953 by Lesney [British die-cast toy company] co-owner, Jack Odell, to solve a challenge for his daughter, who was allowed to take a toy to school only if it was small enough to fit in a matchbox. When his daughter’s school friends began clamoring for a matchbox car.

Matchbox cars has been known for their high standards of authenticity and were often preferred by children over other types of toy cars back in the day.
