Max Verstappen Wins 2023 British Grand Prix

Red Bull’s Max Verstappen eventually won the 2023 British Grand Prix uncontested on the final laps – but it was less of a snoozefest than his previous wins as McLaren’s Lando Norris briefly led the race early on and eventually finished second ahead of Mercedes’ seven-time Formula One world champion, Lewis Hamilton.

Verstappen was on pole position at the race start but Norris got a better start and immediately passed Verstappen on the first corner while his McLaren teammate, Oscar Piastri, almost passed Verstappen as well, before settling into third. Verstappen returned the favor on the fourth lap and passed Norris and that trio held those three positions for the first 30 laps of the race.

Meanwhile, Hamilton gradually moved up from his fourth row grid starting position to third place on Lap 30 – a position he would never give up for the remainder of the race, thanks to a well-timed safety car for Haas Kevin Magnussen on Lap 33 that allowed Hamilton and others to make pit stops under the yellow flag. Upon the race re-start, Hamilton made brief attempts at passing Norris but was rebuffed each time and eventually settled into third where he went unchallenged for the remainder of the race.

With the victory, Verstappen pads his 2023 driver’s standings lead with 255 points to 156 for his Red Bull teammate, Sergio Perez, followed by 137 for Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso and 121 for Hamilton.
