As expected, Red Bull’s Max Verstappen won the 2023 Canadian Grand Prix in what eventually became a snoozefest over Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso in second and seven-time Formula One world champion Lewis Hamilton in third and final podium position for Mercedes.
Verstappen led from start to finish and what little drama there was for the podium positions occurred on the first corner as Hamilton got past Alonso to take second place until Lap 23 when Alonso returned the favor and reclaimed second position. From that point onward, the top three spots were not challenged.
With the victory, Verstappen extends his lead to 190 points over his Red Bull teammate, Sergio Perez, who finished sixth and has 126 points, barely ahead of Alonso in third with 117 points and the top five is closed out by Hamilton with 102 points.
