The future remains clouded for Russian Formula One driver Nikita Mazepin, who drives for the Haas team, would be required by the FiA to sign a neutrality document [like all drivers] if he were to remain in Formula 1 for the 2022 season, due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Mazepin is on the Haas team due to the money originating from the chemicals company owned by his billionaire father Dmitry, who is a close associate of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
In order to compete in F1, Mazepin would have to sign a document containing these conditions:
• Having to compete in an individual or neutral capacity
• Not displaying any Russian or Belarusian national symbols, colors or flags
• An acknowledgement of “the strong commitment made by the FIA to stand in solidarity with the people of Ukraine, the Federation Automobile d’Ukraine, and all of those suffering as a result of the ongoing conflict”
The FIA – F1’s governing body – has still not banned Russians or Belarussians from competing in international events, instead allowing them to participate on a neutral basis.
