McLaren Sells Chunk Of Team, Silverstone Names Hamilton Straight

McLaren is selling a chunk of their team and Silverstone is renaming a portion of their track after Lewis Hamilton in other, arguably more interesting Formula One news than 2020 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

McLaren Racing has agreed to sell a third of their company to MSP Sports Capital – a group of USA-based investors – in a deal to be concluded by the end of 2022.

MSP Sports Capital has bought 15% of McLaren Racing’s Formula 1 and IndyCar teams and that share will rise to 33% by the end of 2022.

MSP Sports Capital has previously invested in Major League Baseball, the National Basketball Association as well as sports broadcaster ESPN.

Meanwhile, over at Silverstone, the track owners [British Racing Drivers’ Club] have re-named the track’s pit straight after Lewis Hamilton in honor of his seven overall F1 world titles as well as becoming the winningest driver in F1 history.

It is the first time part of the track has been named after any individual.

Additionally, Hamilton has won a record seven British Grands Prix.
