McLaren Sells Their Headquarters To Real Estate Investment Firm

McLaren has sold their global headquarters to New York City-based real estate investment firm Global Net Lease (GNL) with GNL acquiring the 840,000 square foot three property office and industrial campus in Woking, Surrey, England for $236 million but keeping McLaren around with a 20-year lease. The transaction is expected to close in the second quarter of 2021.

In a press release for the sale, the CEO of GNL, James Nelson, noted that “The McLaren Group Headquarters’ state of the art buildings have won numerous awards, were designed by renowned architect Norman Foster.” GNL currently owns nearly 300 similar properties worldwide.

The McLaren Technology Center is home, of course, to the McLaren Formula One team and includes a wind tunnel and several lakes which assist in cooling efforts, buildings with self-cleaning roofs that use a high-pressure drainage system to collect rainwater which is then used to refill the lake as well as more than 100,000 trees at the site with a wildlife sanctuary for otters and kingfishers.
