McLaren Team Cleared Of Coronavirus

McLaren – which was the only Formula One team to have a member infected with coronavirus ahead of the since-cancelled 2020 Australian Grand Prix last week – has reported that that team member is entirely symptom-free and no other team members have been infected by the Covid-19 virus.

As a precaution, McLaren has said that 16 members of their staff will remain in quarantine for a further week to follow recommendations – of that group of 16 staff members, 14 had been in close contact with the team member who tested positive and an additional team member displayed symptoms over the weekend.

The 2020 Formula 1 season was set to begin last weekend with the Australian Grand Prix but McLaren’s team member testing positive for the virus effectively put the brakes on the race. Races in Bahrain, China and Vietnam have all been cancelled or postponed and races in the Netherlands and Spain are currently in limbo with the late-May Monaco Grand Prix possibly marking the beginning of the season on its original date or perhaps being moved to a later date and beginning the season at that time.
