Mercedes Loses Their Formula One Technical Chief

Three-time defending Formula One champion Mercedes will head into the new Formula One season without Paddy Lowe – their technical chief – after the 54-year-old Briton, who played an integral role in Mercedes’ recent domination, has taken leave.

After nearly four years with Mercedes, Lowe’s contract was due to expire in May, and he is expected to end up at Williams with his departure being seen as a trade, of sorts, with Williams’ driver Valtteri Bottas expected to be announced as Nico Rosberg’s replacement later this month.

Lowe joined Mercedes in 2013, after a 20-year stint with McLaren and beginning his career with a six-year role at Williams.

British designer James Allison, who left Ferrari last August, is expected to replace Lowe at Mercedes.
