There was no change from the first practice session as a Mercedes was again fastest around the circuit in the second practice session for this weekend’s 2021 Portuguese Grand Prix.
This time, it was the seven-time Formula One defending world champion doing the honors as Lewis Hamilton drove his Mercedes around the Portimao circuit in Algarve 0.143 seconds faster than Max Verstappen of Red Bull.
Hamilton’s Mercedes teammate, Valtteri Bottas – who was fastest earlier in the first practice session – dropped off to third fastest for this session – just ahead of Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz, Jr..
Although practice sessions are not indicative of race results and Mercedes has been dominant in recent years, this was the first time in the 2021 racing season that Hamilton has been the fastest in a practice session.
