Mercedes Wins [Again] At Monaco Grand Prix As Rosberg And Hamilton Go 1-2

It was another dominating Mercedes win as the team’s top two drivers – Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton – finished in the top two spots for the sixth time in six races in the 2014 Formula One racing season. After Hamilton had won the previous four races, this time, it was Rosberg collecting the first place trophy and his second consecutive win at Monaco. Rosberg fended off Hamilton for much of the race and then cruised in for an easy victory when Hamilton got something in his eye that affected his vision and slowed his pace for the final 10 laps. Hamilton’s slowing allowed Red Bull’s Australian sensation driver Daniel Ricciardo to close what had been a double digit seconds gap down to low single digits but in the closing laps Ricciardo was unable to pass Hamilton at the track notorious for its difficulty to pass.

Ricciardo finished third, followed by Spain’s Fernando Alonso in fourth as Rosberg, Hamilton, Ricciardo and Alonso were the only four cars on the lead lap by the end of the race. Four-time defending champion Sebastian Vettel left the race after a mere five laps with a gearbox failure, joining seven others who did not finish.

In the season point standings, Rosberg retakes the season lead over Hamilton with 122 points to Hamilton’s 118 followed by Fernando Alonso in third with 61 points.

The 2014 Formula One racing season continues with the Monaco Grand Prix in Monte Carlo, Monaco on June 8, 2014.
