Michelin V. Pirelli For 2017 Formula One Tires

Michelin beat a deadline this week and has formally made an offer to be the sole tire supplier for Formula One racing beginning with the 2017 season. The catch? Michelin is only interested in being the international racing series’ tire supplier if F1 moves to larger, 18-inch wheels from their current 13-inch wheels – otherwise, all bets are off for them.

Formula One chief, Bernie Ecclestone, however, has previously indicated that he is opposed to Michelin being the sole tire supplier if there is only a single tire allowed during races.

The 2015 Formula One season continues with the Austrian Grand Prix in Spielberg at 5 a.m. [PDT] on NBCSN on June 21, 2015.
