NASCAR promoted – again – Steve Phelps, this time naming Phelps as their new president. Phelps had been the organization’s chief marketing officer before being promoted to chief operations officer in March and now has been promoted again to NASCAR president, effective October 1, 2018.
Phelps joined NASCAR in 2005, after working in various marketing roles previously with the National Football League [NFL] from 1990 to 2004.
Phelps replaces Brent Dewar, who has elected to step down and will remain with the company through the end of the 2018 racing season, transitioning to a senior consulting and advisory role in 2019.
