Volvo Cars-owned Polestar is not afraid of saying “no” in promotion of their electric performance cars, which included a few snarky jabs at Volkswagen [“No Dieselgate”] and Tesla [“No Conquering Mars“ – a thinly-veiled reference to Tesla founder Elon Musk’s obsession with the red planet].
While Musk’s Mar’s obsession was deemed to be a negative in the promotion, Polestar adeptly maneuvered around the fact that Polestar is mostly owned by Volvo Cars which, in turn, is majority-owned by Geely – a company based in China – a country not known for allowing its citizens too much freedom to say what they think about Mars, Musk or Tesla…particularly if it conflicts with the country’s official stance on those subjects.
“No irony” – however – was not included as a side explanation of Polestar’s “No Compromises” title of their promotion.
