Simon Pagenaud won the 2017 IndyCar race at Sonoma but it was Josef Newgarden who won the season title with his second place finish being enough points to win the season.
Newgarden amassed 642 points to 629 for Pagenaud – with Scott Dixon coming in third with 621 points.
