Mexican driver Sergio Perez gave the boot to new sponsor Hawkers after the sunglasses company put up a series of post-election night remarks on its official Twitter account that made fun of Mexico. Hawkers had only come on board as a sponsor this month.
Perez was in no mood to be conciliatory and quickly ended the sponsorship, noting that he would “never let anyone make fun of my country.”
The Hawkers account reacted by attempting to save face and admitted that they had made a “grave error” but the damage had been done and Perez is now looking for a new sunglasses company sponsor.
