Porsche has become the latest company to hop onto the “Star Wars” bandwagon, just in time for the release of the next film in the venerable franchise, “The Rise of Skywalker” – set to debut on December 20, 2019.
Porsche and Lucasfilm are collaborating to design an X-Wing spaceship and “Wired” will join the collaboration to document the design process with a dedicated website devoted to the project and several teaser videos.
In “Twin Tests” – the launch video for the design collaboration – an all-electric Porsche Taycan was featured as the inspiration for the X-Wing-styled spaceship.
Fans can follow the development process of the spaceship online at www.thedesigneralliance.com – where the design team will release the results of their meetings in Stuttgart and San Francisco. Additional content will be released, timed for an unveiling of the spaceship at the “Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker” premiere, where Porsche will be showcasing the Taycan, which launched in early September. Deliveries are expected to begin for the U.S. market at the end of the year, coinciding with the film’s release.
