Porsche May Return To Formula One In 2021

Porsche has indicated that they are considering a return to Formula One as an engine supplier after the sport introduces new regulations in 2021. Porsche is not, however, interested in creating a full-fledged F1 team.

Porsche left as an F1 engine supplier in 1991 and is leaving the top category of Le Mans 24 Hours this year so they can participate in the Formula E electric championship in 2019.

“F1 could be one of the right places,” said Porsche finance chief Lutz Meschke of F1 after meeting Formula One management at the 2017 Italian Grand Prix.

Formula One currently has four engine suppliers with Ferrari, Honda, Mercedes and Renault [though Honda’s existence is tenuous].
