Porsche Wins LeMans When Other Cars Fail

The No. 2 Porsche 919 won the 2017 version of the 24 Hours of Le Mans after every other leading car in its LMP1 class – most notably the Toyotas – either retired or encountered mechanical problems, leaving the Porsche to win the class by surviving the entire race.

Due to the aforementioned attrition rate, the No. 38 Jackie Chan DC Racing – a new team for this year – got second place overall and won the LMP2 class. The final spot on the podium was occupied by the No. 13 Vaillante Rebellion LMP2 car. The lone remaining Toyota – the No. 8 – managed to finish the race, but only in a distant ninth place after experiencing mechanical issues throughout the race.

Aston Martin defeated Corvette in the LM GTE Pro class with a last lap pass with a Ford GT finishing third to round out that class podium. In the LM GTE Am class, it was a clean sweep by the Ferrari 488’s of JMW Motorsport, Spirit of Race and Scuderia Corsa.

This is Porsche’s third consecutive and 19th overall 24 Hours of LeMans victory.
