Will Power started the MAVTV 500 IndyCar race in Fontana, California, in 20th place and eventually finished ninth – but that was good enough to give him the victory in the Verizon IndyCar Championship Series. Power had collected 671 points for the season, defeating Helio Castroneves by 62 points and Scott Dixon by 67 points. Dixon finished second in the race and Castroneves finished 14th overall.
Tony Kanaan won the race – his first of the season – and finished seventh overall in the season standings with 127 points.
