One of the Herbies used in the third Herbie the Love Bug movie – “Herbie Goes to Monte Carlo” – is up for grabs on eBay. The car is one of three used in the movie and features a retrofitted rear set used for a hidden driver for filming scenes in the movie. Additionally, the car was the one used to imprint Herbie’s tires in cement on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
In “Herbie Goes to Monte Carlo”, Herbie participates in the fictional “Trans-france Race” and Jim Douglas [Dean Jones] recruits Wheelie Applegate [Don Knotts] as their mechanic for the race and Herbie proceeds to fall in love with a Lancia Scorpion named Giselle.
Currently, the bid sits at $50,500 – which has not met the reserve – and the car is estimated to be worth closer to $100,000 despite its current as-is condition.
