Red Bull Penalties Temporarily Postponed Due To Co-Owner’s Death

The death of Red Bull co-owner Dietrich Mateschitz has temporarily postponed action by the FiA – the sport’s governing body – as Red Bull is on the verge of receiving penalties for going over the budget cap in the 2021 Formula One season.

The FIA had previously announced that Red Bull committed a “minor breach” of the $145 million spending limit in 2021 and the FiA has offered Red Bull an “accepted breach agreement” – which Red Bull has yet to accept – and now the process will be delayed further by Mateschitz’s unexpected death.

The Austrian, Mateschitz, who co-founded the Red Bull energy drinks empire, died on Saturday from an undisclosed illness at the age of 78.

Details of the breach agreement offered to Red Bull have not been made public.
