Red Bull Racing Signs 2011 GT Academy Winner

Red Bull Racing has signed 2011 GT Academy Jann Mardenborough to their driver development program and have assigned him to the Arden International GP3 team which won the GP3 driver’s title last year with Daniil Kyvat at the helm. Mardenborough, who is 22, began playing the Sony PlayStation racing simulator video game Gran Turismo 5 and ultimately beat out 90,000 competitors in its Nissan GT Academy competition. Mardenborough advanced with 11 other finalists to an on-track competitions at LeMans and Silverstone and won both of those to begin his on-track racing career three years ago. The Welsh-born driver began in GT racing series in 2012, then moved up to F3 and LMP2, where he achieved a podium finish last year.

The first race of the 2014 GP3 Series will take place at the Catalunya Circuit in Barcelona on May 9-11, 2014.
