Regan Smith Wins Nationwide Series Opener By Lucky 13 Hundredths Of A Second

This would have been back-to-back Nationwide Series opener wins for Regan Smith except for the technicality of that crash last year when Smith was leading coming into the final turns. Smith was leading and tried to block an oncoming Brad Keselowski but Keselowski nicked his car and spun Smith, which caused a 12-car accident and sent Smith back to 14th place. This year, Smith and Keselowski were at it again at the front but this time each had their own racing lines coming into the final turns and it was Smith who edged out Keselowski by a mere .013 – the second-closest in Daytona International Speedway history.

Regan Smith celebrates his season-opening Nationwide Series win at Daytona.

Smith receives 47 points for the win to lead the series over Keselowski.
