Renault Formula 2 Driver Anthoine Hubert Killed In Race At Spa

Renault Formula 2 driver Anthoine Hubert was killed in a crash in a Formula 2 race at Spa-Francorchamps today.

Hubert, a Frenchman, who was 22, lost control of his car entering the huge curve at Le Rouge and crashed into the padded barriers but then bounced out into the path of the oncoming car of American Juan Manuel Correa at about 170mph.

An FIA statement said that Hubert was taken to the medical center after the incident, and died at 18:35 local time.
Correa, meanwhile, was taken to Liege hospital and is in a stable condition. The race was stopped after the crash and subsequently cancelled.

Hubert was a member of Renault’s young driver program and drove for the BWT Arden team in F2. He was currently in eighth place in the championship and had won twice so far this season – in Monaco and France.
