Renault Threatens Quitting F1, Italian And German GP’s Not Looking So Good

In the latest sign of unhappiness with Formula One non-competitiveness, Renault – engine supplier for the Red Bull teams – has threatened to quit participating in Formula One racing. The French engine manufacturer was on the receiving end of criticism from Red Bull last week and if it is financially feasible, may also look into the possibility of running their own team rather than merely being an engine supplier.

Additionally, Formula One chief, Bernie Ecclestone, has indicated that not only is the German Grand Prix cancelled for this year but the 2016 version may be in trouble as well as, despite having a contract with Hockenheim for 2016, it is not a certainty that the race will occur. The 2015 version was supposed to happen at the famed Nurburgring but financial issues derailed that plan and it appears unlikely that the Nurburgring will host an F1 race in the near future.

Meanwhile, the Italian Grand Prix at Monza may also be breathing its last as Ecclestone seems resigned to the fact that the race will not be renewed for that track in upcoming years.

The 2015 Formula One season continues with the Malaysian Grand Prix in Kuala Lumpur on March 29, 2015.
