Return To The Scene Of The Crime – 2022 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix

This week in Formula One, it was a return to the scene of the crime – the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix – where last year’s fiasco involving a rogue race director not following Formula 1 rules, essentially preventing Mercedes’ seven-time F1 world champion Lewis Hamilton to win the race and depriving him of his official eighth world title.

Red Bull’s Max Verstappen was on pole position and led the race nearly from start to finish in a snoozefest. Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc held off Verstappen’s Red Bull teammate for second place on the podium. Hamilton was forced to retire late in the race with a hydraulic/gearbox issue.

With the anti-climactic victory, Verstappen claims his first-ever undisputed Formula One title without an asterisk firmly attached while Leclerc claims second and Perez third in the overall driver’s championship.
