Rolex 24 At Daytona Finishes With A Bang

A 24-hour race usually is a snoozer unless there is some spectacular mid-race crash or late-race drama and it was the latter for this year’s Rolex 24 at Daytona with Scott Dixon’s Chip Ganassi Racing winning the overall title after Colin Braun crashed out with less than 20 minutes remaining in the race. Although Braun was not in the running for the title, his crash and the resulting yellow caution flag allowed the Wayne Taylor Racing team car to challenge Dixon in the Prototype class, only to have a mandated driver change take them out of contention.

Dixon won the Protoype class as well as the overall title, a Corvette won the GT LeMans class with Antonio Garcia behind the wheel at the end, A Dodge Viper won the GTD class with Dan Farnbacher piloting the final lap and Tom Kimber-Smith drove past the checkered flag to win the Prototype Challenge class in an ORECA FLM09 after Braun’s crash.
