The Saudi Arabian Grand Prix has been provisionally added to the 2021 Formula One calendar.
The 2021 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix is temporarily set to be on a street circuit in Jeddah and will be inserted toward the end of the calendar year. After a new track is built at Qiddiyah [expected to be ready by 2023], the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix will then move to that location.
The Saudi Arabia Grand Prix is one 22 races on Formula 1’s provisional 2021 schedule – minus the Brazilian Grand Prix, which continues to be negotiated.
The 2021 season begins in Melbourne, Australia – which is just now emerging from a lengthy Covid-19 lockdown – in mid-March and includes a return to all the Covid-19-cancelled races from 2020 as well as the debut of the Vietnamese Grand Prix.
The Dutch Grand Prix, which had been due to return to the schedule for the first time since 1985 in April this year, is expected to be moved to the late summer and might be paired with the Belgian Grand Prix at Spa-Francorchamps.
The Brazilian Grand Prix is being held up by a dispute with the promoter at Sao Paulo’s Interlagos track – which has held the race since 1990 – and the lack of a new track [planned in Rio de Janeiro but not ready and controversial due to environmental issues].
