Sean Edwards Killed At Queensland Raceway

Porsche Supercup championship frontrunner Sean Edwards has been killed in a crash in Australia.

The 26-year-old Briton had been a passenger in a Porsche 996 that struck the barriers at Queensland Raceway in Willowbank during a test session on Tuesday.

Edwards had been killed immediately when the Porsche collided with the tyre wall on the exterior of the track at Turn 6.

The accident had been at first attended to by onlookers after the car burst into flames on impact.

The emergency services took three hours extracting the driver – a 20-year-old guy from Brisbane – from the burning wreckage. He is presently in intensive care with life-threatening injuries.

An ultra-successful period in 2013 had included victories for Edwards in the Nurburgring and Dubai 24 Hours, wins in the Porsche Carrera Cup Germany and in the GTC class of the United states Le Mans Series.

He presently leads the Supercup standings with one double-header at Yas Marina on November 2-3.
