Sebastian Vettel Will Leave Ferrari At Conclusion Of 2020 Season

Sebastian Vettel is set to leave Ferrari at the conclusion of the 2020 Formula One racing season – or at least what is currently passing for the 2020 Formula One racing season – after contract talks between Ferrari and Vettel broke down with no agreement.

Reportedly, Ferrari team principal Mattia Binotto and Vettel could not agree on the length of the contract renewal nor the salary amount, resulting in a mutual decision to part ways.

A four-time F1 world champion with Red Bull, Vettel, however, denied the split was financially motivated and was more reflective of what he said was the absence of “a common desire”.

“In order to get the best possible results in this sport, it’s vital for all parties to work in perfect harmony. Financial matters have played no part in this joint decision. That’s not the way I think when it comes to making certain choices and it never will be. What’s been happening in these past few months has led many of us to reflect on what are our real priorities in life. One needs to use one’s imagination and to adopt a new approach to a situation that has changed. I myself will take the time I need to reflect on what really matters when it comes to my future,” said Vettel.

Vettel’s French teammate Charles Leclerc – who has been re-signed through the 2024 season – will now become the de facto leader for Ferrari if races begin in July and in whatever form they take for the remainder of the year.
