Super Typhoon Hagibis Headed Toward Suzuka

After winds increased 100 mph earlier today, Tropical Storm Hagibis was upgraded to Super Typhoon status and the now-Category 5 Typhoon is headed in a northwesterly direction from its current spot in the northern Pacific Ocean – directly toward a potential meeting with Formula One’s 2019 Japanese Grand Prix track at Suzuka on Saturday.

The storm is currently expected to decrease in intensity by the time it arrives at Suzuka but the decrease in intensity is still expected to make it along the lines of a Category 1 storm and will likely bring high winds and torrential rain over the weekend, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency [JMA].

The JMA has predicted the typhoon to hit the southern island of Kyushu on Saturday.
