The Grand Tour Begins In Johannesburg, South Africa

After watching the premiere episode of the new BBC version of the old “Top Gear”, you were probably salivating to find out more information on when, where and how fast “The Grand Tour” – the new Amazon show with the proper “Top Gear” boys – Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May – could get on the air. The “where” part has been answered as the TGT announced that they would make the lucky people in Johannesburg, South Africa, their first stop on July 17, 2016.

The first ever pre-recorded studio section of the program will be filmed in front of a live audience – all housed within a giant tent – and, in addition, Amazon is giving fans the opportunity to win one of three pairs of tickets, travel and accommodation to be part of the recording in Johannesburg.

To enter for a chance to win, entrants should share, via Twitter, a photo or video of the most unusual place they’ve ever put up a tent, using the hashtag #TheGrandTourJoburg. The top 10 entries will be shortlisted by an Amazon Prime Video panel, and the final three winners will be selected by Clarkson, Hammond and May.

The contest begins on June 2, 2016 and closes on June 8, 2016.

All entrants (“Entrants”) must use the hashtag #TheGrandTourJoburg in their tweet to be considered for entry. Tweets that do not use the hashtag will not be considered. Replies that do not use the hashtag will not be considered.
Each photograph or video submitted must be the original creation of the Entrant and must be suitable for family viewing on a national news network, meet the content guidelines found at www.amazon.co.uk/content guidelines, and meet other reasonable community standards. If submitting a video, the video must be in the English language; be a minimum of 30 seconds and a maximum of 90 seconds in length; have the maximum video size of 500 MB; be of reasonable audio quality. Videos must not include music or captions, including, but not limited to, credits, subtitles or title screens.

Below are the actual terms & conditions regarding the contest if you find yourself with loads of time today to read through them…

•3 nights in 4 star standard hotel accommodation for the winner and one guest (single room, double occupancy) at a hotel near the Studio to be determined by Amazon in its sole discretion (the “Hotel”); and

Any surcharges for pre-existing medical conditions, or for travellers aged over 70 years old, will be payable by the Prize winner. Amazon will reimburse the cost of a standard travel insurance policy from a reputable insurer based in the winner’s country of residence if the Prize winner is resident of a country other than UK.)

Each Prize is subject to the terms and conditions listed directly below and in the Miscellaneous Terms and Conditions section of these Terms and Conditions.

The Prize winner and their guest must travel on the same itinerary. Although it is currently envisaged that the Studio will be in South Africa, the Studio may be relocated to another country or place outside of South Africa for reasons beyond the control of Amazon, in which event the Airport and Hotel will be relocated accordingly to be near the Studio location. Prize winner’s guest must be aged 14 years or older. Prize winner and their guest must have, and are solely responsible for obtaining, all necessary identification and/or travel documents/visas required for travel.

Winner selection
During the period of 9th June 2016 through 15th June 2016, each qualified Entry will be judged and rated by:

(1) A panel of judges from Amazon Instant Video Limited in order to choose the Top 10 entries; and
(2) Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May, who will choose three winners from the Top 10 entries selected by the Amazon panel.

The three winners will be selected based on the following criteria:
(a) originality of content and how interesting the Entrant’s answer is to the line “The most unusual place I have ever put up a tent is. . .”; (b) quality of the image or audio and video production; and (c) humorousness of the Entry (collectively, the “Judging Criteria”).

The three winners will be notified via direct message on Twitter, to the Twitter handle from which the Entry was submitted, within 48 hours after the end of the judging period stated above (“Notification”). The winner will have 48 hours from Amazon sending the Notification to respond to Amazon and confirm acceptance of the Prize. Absent such timely response and acceptance, the winner will have no further claim to the Prize, and Amazon will be free to choose a substitute winner to award the Prize to.

If a selected winner (or any substitute winner) is ineligible, cannot be reached, or fails to claim the Prize within 48 hours of notification, that winner (or substitute winner) will forfeit the Prize and it will be awarded to a substitute winner. If, having attempted to contact a winner and a substitute winner, Amazon is unable to award a Prize, Amazon reserves the right to consider the Prize unclaimed.

This process is final and no correspondence will be entered into. Non-winners will not be notified. The name of the winners and their county of residence will be provided on receipt of a written request sent to Amazon Instant Video Limited within 30 days of the end of the judging period.

By accepting the Prize, Entrants consent to the use of their name, county of residence, likeness and/or Prize information for promotional and other purposes without further payment, except where prohibited by law. The winner may be required to participate in Amazon’s reasonable marketing and promotional activities and by entering into the Competition you consent to participate in such activities in the event that you are the winner.
