Thieves Try To Pull A Fast One With Enzo Ferrari

Why would anyone want to steal the body of the legendary Enzo Ferrari? One word: ransom. But Italian police have confirmed that they exposed a plot to steal the body of Ferrari, the founder of his namesake company which produces some of the world’s fastest and most expensive cars and who died in 1988 at the age of 90.

Investigators in the town of Nuoro, located on the island of Sardinia, claim 34 people had been arrested as part of the operation and say they suspect a gang had planned to demand a ransom from the Ferrari family or company. Police reportedly stumbled onto the plot while investigating arms and drug trafficking.

Ferrari is not buried in Sardinia, but rather in an above-ground family tomb in the San Cataldo cemetery in Modena, near the Ferrari plant at Maranello in central Italy – but gang members are reported to have allegedly inspected the site several times in preparation for their operation.
