An already crowded 2016 Formula One calendar with 21 races could get another after Turkish officials met with Formula One chief Bernie Ecclestone and announced that – pending governmental elections on November 1, 2015 and government approval – Turkey could be the host to a 22nd race next year. Turkey previously hosted a grand prix for seven years – from 2005-11 – but another stint as an F1 race host would likely mean that the Turkish government would have to sign off on an increased hosting fee [$13.5 million in 2011]. Ecclestone has already said that he will be finalizing the 2016 calendar in December 2015.
The 2015 Formula One season continues with the Singapore Grand Prix at Marina Bay at 5 a.m. [PDT] on NBCSN on September 20, 2015.
