V8 Supercars Could Go Under The Lights For The First Time In Nearly 20 Years

V8 Supercars will conduct a secret lighted course race test later this year and if everything goes smoothly, the racing series could see their first night racing in nearly 20 years [when V8 Supercars raced at Melbourne’s Calder Park in 1997]. If the test is successful, a cost of $8 million will be incurred to install permanent broadcast-quality track lighting at the Sydney Motorsports Park.

Depending upon the results of the testing, the first V8 Supercar race under the lights could be held in 2016.
