Verstappen Claims Pole Position For 2021 British Grand Prix

Red Bull’s Max Verstappen claimed the pole position for tomorrow’s 2021 British Grand Prix with a victory in the 17-lap sprint race format newly instituted on a three-race trial basis by Formula One.

Although Mercedes’ seven-time defending world F1 champion Lewis Hamilton sat on the pole for the sprint race, it was Verstappen who got the quicker start and after fending off an early charge from Hamilton, easily held him off for the next 16 laps.

However, Verstappen’s Red Bull teammate, Sergio Perez, suffered the exact opposite fate – spinning out on the fifth lap and will start tomorrow’s 2021 British Grand Prix in the 20th and last spot on the grid.

Tomorrow’s front row will consist of Verstappen and Hamilton followed by Hamilton’s Mercedes teammate Valtteri Bottas and Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc in the second row and an all-McLaren third row of Lando Norris and Daniel Ricciardo.
