Red Bull’s Max Verstappen has been given a three-place grid penalty by race stewards for causing the crash that took both him and Mercedes’ seven-time defending Formula One world champion, Lewis Hamilton, out of the race in last weekend’s 2021 Italian Grand Prix.
Verstappen will serve the penalty at the 2021 Russian Grand Prix in Sochi on September 26, 2021.
With neither scoring a point in the 2021 Italian Grand Prix, Verstappen maintains a five-point lead – 226.5 to 221.5 – over Hamilton in the F1 driver’s championship after 14 of a scheduled 22 races.
