Red Bull’s Max Verstappen won the inaugural 2022 Miami Grand Prix and moved a few points closer to current Formula One series leader Charles Leclerc, who finished second ahead of his Ferrari teammate, Carlos Sainz, Jr. on the podium.
Leclerc had claimed pole position for the race but Verstappen passed him on the ninth lap and comfortably held the lead until a late Lap 42-47 safety car period closed up the field and gave Leclerc one last gasp at passing Verstappen but Leclerc was unable to pass Verstappen in the final laps.
With the victory, Leclerc continues to hold the overall lead – albeit smaller – over Verstappen, with 104 points to Verstappen’s 85 points and Verstappen’s Red Bull teammate, Sergio Perez, in a distant third with 66 points.
