Vettel Leads Ferrari 1-2 At 2017 Monaco Grand Prix

Ferrari grabbed their first 1-2 finish in seven years as Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen finished first and second at the 2017 Monaco Grand Prix. Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo claimed the third spot on the podium.

The 1-2 finish was a familiar sight last year in Formula One racing – but for Mercedes. This is the first Ferrari 1-2 finish since the German Grand Prix in 2010 and the first Ferrari 1-2 finish at Monaco since 2001. It was mostly an expected result though as the Ferraris started in the first row with Raikkonen on the pole and Vettel alongside him and that was the way it stayed until Lap 40 when Vettel pitted after Raikkonen and was able to take the lead from his teammate.

After that, there was no change in the top three, but chaos ensued in the back of the pack as six cars exited the race between laps 60 and 73, leaving only 13 cars to finish the race.

With the victory, Vettel extends his lead in the season driver’s points standings to 25 points – with 129 points to 104 for Lewis Hamilton, who finished seventh.
