Aston Martin’s Sebastian Vettel was officially disqualified from the 2021 Hungarian Grand Prix for fuel infringement rule infraction and with that, seven-time defending Formula One world champion and Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton’s driver’s championship lead has also officially grown to eight points over Red Bull’s Max Verstappen.
Although Hamilton actually finished in third place in the race, Vettel – who had finished second – was removed from the results and Hamilton gains three more points by moving into second while Verstappen gains only a single point for moving from 10th to ninth, therefore allowing Hamilton a net two point gain on Verstappen.
Aston Martin have indicated their intention to appeal against Vettel’s disqualification but have not yet confirmed if they will actually take that action.
