Vettel Temporarily Disqualified From 2021 Hungarian Grand Prix

Aston Martin’s Sebastian Vettel has been temporarily – pending appeal – disqualified after finishing second in the 2021 Hungarian Grand Prix.

Vettel was disqualified after race officials were unable to take the mandatory one-liter sample of fuel from Vettel’s car after the race – with officials only able to extract 0.3 liters while Aston Martin claimed there were 1.44 liters remaining in the car. A lighter fuel load creates a performance advantage and every car must be able to have one liter of fuel extracted post-race.

If Vettel’s disqualification stands, Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton and Red Bull’s Max Verstappen would each move up a spot, resulting in Hamilton’s Formula One driver’s championship lead over Verstappen growing to eight points.
