Other cars in the running with the Avalon and Corolla were the 2017 Chevy Cruze, the 2017 Hyundai Elantra, the 2017 Honda CR-V, the 2018 Chevrolet Malibu, the 2017 Subaru Outback and the 2017 Kia Sorento.
