The young dreams of Pascal Wehrlein have just been answered – sorta – as the champion of the DTM [the German touring car racing series] has just been rewarded with the first seat on the Manor Racing team for the 2016 Formula One racing season.
The 21-year-old German is the youngest ever champion in the DTM and with Manor Racing using Mercedes engines this year, has the extra advantage of being in Mercedes’ driving program for the last two years – having test driven for the Mercedes F1 team four times last year.
Manor was the last team to formally announce their drivers for the 2016 Formula One season and has yet to announce their second driver – expected to be a choice between American Alexander Rossi, British driver Will Stevens and Indonesian Rio Haryanto.
Stevens was Manor’s top driver last year while Rossi competed in five of the final seven races for Manor in 2015.
