Williams has announced James Vowles as their new team principal – the 43-year-old Vowles was previously the head of strategy at Mercedes from 2014 to mid-season 2022.
Vowles will begin his new job next month [on February 20, 2023] and replaces Jost Capito, who was sacked by Williams in December after just two years with the team.
Vowles is being put in the unenviable position of attempting to revive Williams, a team which was highly successful in Formula One for much of the 1980s and 1990s but have finished last in the constructor standings for the past three seasons.
Vowles was a Mercedes lifer, beginning his 21-year Formula 1 career there in various roles before finally ascending to the head of race strategy role in 2018.
