Williams Signs Alexander Albon For 2022 Season

Current Red Bull reserve driver Alexander Albon will join the Williams team for the 2022 Formula One racing season – replacing George Russell, who moved to Mercedes earlier this week.

The 25-year-old Albon previously was the #2 driver behind Max Verstappen until Red Bull signed Sergio Perez and relegated Albon to be their reserve driver.

Albon will join Canadian Nicholas Latifi as Williams announced that Latifi will stay with the team for a third consecutive season.

Albon made his Formula 1 debut with Red Bull’s second team Scuderia Toro Rosso [now called Scuderia AlphaTauri] in 2019, before being promoted to the main Red Bull team midway though the season.

Albon has made 38 F1 starts and claimed a pair of podium finishes in that time period – both third-place finishes in 2020 at the Tuscan Grand Prix and Bahrain Grand Prix – while also recording 23 top-10 finishes.
