Yawn – Mercedes And Rosberg Win 2016 Singapore Grand Prix

In breaking news, a Mercedes won another Formula One race in the 2016 season. This time the race was the Singapore Grand Prix and the Mercedes was the one that belonged to Nico Rosberg, who held off Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo and his Mercedes teammate, Lewis Hamilton, for the victory.

Rosberg was the pole sitter for the race and, as happens in most races where a Mercedes sits on the pole, took off from everybody else from the race start and was essentially not seen again until the last few laps when Rosberg coasted home on worn tires over a charging Ricciardo on fresher tires while Hamilton was a distant third.

The only in-race drama occurred at the beginning when Red Bull’s Max Verstappen’s poor start overshadowed Force India’s Nico Hulkenberg’s good start and the result was a crash that took out Hulkenberg as he tried to squeeze through a narrow opening caused by cars trying to avoid Verstappen’s slow start. Other than that minor drama, the race was mostly one big long parade lap for Rosberg as he coasted to his third consecutive victory.

With the win, Rosberg now moves ahead of his teammate Hamilton in the 2016 driver’s season point standings with 273 points to 265 for Hamilton with Ricciardo in a distant third with 179 points.
